Why is Winter the Best Time to Get IPL?

IPL can be used to target a variety of skin conditions which contribute to signs of ageing, including pigmented lesions such as freckles, sunspots and age spots, as well as other issues, such as vascular lesions and spider veins. With the right IPL course, redness from rosacea or facial flushing can also be lightened and gradually fade.

We forget that over time our skin is exposed on a daily basis to a wide range of elements all of which contribute to ageing skin. For example, extremes in temperature which can dry the skin out and of course UV, which is the worst for pigmentation spots. Age also means the skin itself becomes thin and the elasticity goes. However, IPL means that it is possible to tackle and heal some of the damage that these factors can do to our skin.

IPL actually stands for Intense Pulsed Light and it harnesses technology similar to a laser. There are a wide range of IPL options available but here at Norwich Cosmetic Clinic we use Elōs, which is the first technology that combines bi-polar radio frequency and optical energy (either laser or light).

The light energy penetrates just below the skin's surface so it is a highly effective option for precisely and safely targeting problems. The treatment safely and comfortably fades the appearance of skin imperfections caused by the sun and uneven skin tones caused by age spots using intense pulsed light.

Results can take effect anywhere from one to six sessions and treatments are carried out monthly. So this is not a quick or easy fix, but it is highly effective and, as such, it is worth investing the time to see an improvement in skin tone.

However, it is worth remembering that sun exposure can irritate skin after treatment, so when receiving a course of IPL, it is always recommended to stay away from the sun’s damaging UVA and UVB rays. This ensures skin sensitised by IPL treatments will stay protected, reducing the risk greatly of skin damage. In addition, exposure to sunlight can mean the treatment will be less effective. So we definitely recommend IPL to our clients during the Winter months, as typically our English weather means that it is easier to avoid damaging UV rays than it is in the summer!

So if you would like clearer, younger looking skin this year and if IPL sounds as if it might be the right treatment for you, please do not hesitate to contact us here at the Clinic to arrange your FREE consultation.
