Many people want to improve the texture of their skin to reduce the signs of ageing, scars or blemishes, and help to restore a younger, fresher appearance but sometimes its hard to know where to turn.
As we grow older we lose elasticity and volume in our skin, in particular in the face, which causes the skin to sag and thin, and draws the skin downwards. Exposure to sunlight and acne scars can also contribute to our ageing appearance.
The good news is that there are a range of treatments which can help to give the appearance of younger looking skin. Chemical peels, Dermaplaning, microdermabrasion and Co2 laser resurfacing are just a few of the options you could consider.
Each treatment uses very specific technologies to achieve results. Some are more aggressive, such as chemical peels, which work by removing a layer of skin with a chemical preparation; or Co2 laser resurfacing, which uses a matrix of laser light points that vary in intensity to stimulate and remodel collagen for improvement of pronounced wrinkles and creases. There are also more ‘gentle’ treatments, including Dermaplaning, which uses a sterile, surgical scalpel to ‘shave’ the skin’s surface, removing the top layer of dead skin along with fine, vellus hair (aka peach fuzz) and microdermabrasion, which is a smooth and gentle exfoliation that leaves the skin feeling deep cleansed and soft.
The most important thing when considering facial rejuvenation is to assess which treatment is right for you. For example, if you do not like the idea of an invasive treatment or your lifestyle does not allow for a lengthy recovery time, then Co2 laser resurfacing is not for you. Instant results may also be an important factor, in which case Dermaplaning would be ideal. In addition, consider the results you want to achieve – if you are looking for dramatic improvement, then a chemical peel can achieve this for you, whilst if you feel a deep exfoliation is what you need, then microdermabrasion could achieve that for you.
