Mini-Guide: What Exactly Does Botox Do?
We have created this mini-guide to help explain what botox is and what it can be used for, as we are often asked what exactly does botox do? Our experienced team at Norwich Cosmetic Clinic will explain some of the critical facts about Botox, including why it is an excellent treatment when administered by a trained professional.
What is botox?
Botox is an injectable (Botulinum Toxin), which relaxes and contracts muscles. This means it can be used in the face for smoothening fine lines and wrinkles, in the head and neck to lessen tension headaches, and even in the armpits and palms to counteract hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating). Typically one Botox treatment will last 3 to 4 months.
Refer to the NHS for additional information.
Why do people have Botox treatment?
People have Botox to treat a number of concerns, most commonly to reduce signs of aging in the face. As we age, our skin loses elasticity and volume, and excessive frowning creates lines in the face which can't bounce back like they would have in our youth.
Combatting the changes associated with getting older has become much easier with all of the treatments out there. At NCC, we provide some 22 treatments to support our customers, Botox being very popular due to it being less invasive and semi-permanent, meaning it lasts for a period of time but is not a permanent change.
People have Botox:
- To look and feel younger.
- To improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
- To give them confidence.
- Because it is less invasive than surgery.
How can Botox Treatment help me?
As noted, Botox Treatments can reduce fine lines and wrinkles, providing a youthful and smoother face but also has many medical benefits which can improve general lifestyle. Many of our patients suffer with migraines and tension headaches which can be significantly relieved with Botox treatment. Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) is a condition that is not only inconvenient but uncomfortable. Injecting Botox into these problem areas leaves our clients feeling much more comfortable and at ease with managing these symptoms. Botox is also used to treat spasms, again helping our patients leave the clinic feeling confident.
Who administers Botox?
Mr Bijan Beigi is an Oculoplastic and Mid-face specialist surgeon. He established Norwich Cosmetic Clinic in 2009 to provide services outside of the NHS for his patients. On a weekly basis Mr Beigi administers Botox and Dermal Fillers and provides CO2 Laser Resurfacing and Mole Removals to our clients. All of our team are trained to the highest standards, learning from Mr Beigi's decades of experience in this field. With the Botox treatment, Mr Beigi administeres the treatment, and our team assist you through the rest of the process, including pre and post-treatment care.
Is Botox painful?
This treatment is often described as a slight nip with low pain. Mr Beigi will ensure that this is as pain-free as possible, and if you are anxious, then he is always happy to discuss everything with you during your consultation.
Our experienced team will help you navigate the process without concern, you are in very safe hands, and we are one of very few clinics in Norwich that perform Botox treatments with this level of medical expertise and care.
How long can Botox last in between sessions?
According to the NHS, it is every 3-4 months. This is, however, a guide, and can vary from person to person. Our consultant will discuss your concerns with you in your consultation and provide a recommended treatment plan to achieve the best results long-term. Botox is a non-permanent treatment that will wear off over the 3-4 months, however, your skin will be improved from its original state.
How many sessions can I have?
The number of sessions you can have using Botox is not limited, which means you can use the treatment for as long as you like. However, Mr Beigi will suggest the best course of action for your particular concerns and guide you throughout your treatment with us. The Botox treatment blossomed in the USA in the late 90s early 2000s and has continued to be popular ever since.
Example of Botox
This is a more subtle example of the use of Botox in the forehead. You can see the reduction of lines across the forehead, which has lifted the eyebrows and the eyes. One of the most noticeable changes in this picture is the patient's frown lines.
